The Spirit of Prophecy
Our subject originates from the Book of Revelations in the Holy Bible from the 19th Chapter and the 10th verse which reads as follows: "And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
The testimony of Jesus Christ is of specific interest here, where HE the prophet is written of, prophesied of before he arrives and then also begins to Prophecy after He arrives. This ability to speak of things before they occur :and then afterwards they actually perform in Historical fact, is a unique quality about our LORD JESUS CHRIST the Messiah. And we will discuss scripture that specifically points to these unique truths about him. So the point to emphasize from the scripture above is the last part of that verse; namely {"...the testimony of JESUS Is the Spirit of Prophecy.} We first go to the book of Genesis the 49th chapter and the 8th verse.
[To give a brief synopsis of how this Scripture relates to the Testimony of Jesus and the Spirit of Prophecy; let us first note that our forefather Jacob is Prophesying over his twelve sons here to foretell what would befall them in the latter days. These twelve sons would be transformed into twelve tribes as a result of their offspring. Let's note that the Holy Bible traces the lineage of Jacob; Starting from Noah to Abraham from Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to Moses, from Moses to King David from King David all the way up to the Messiah, in this particular scripture Jacob prays over his son JUDAH which also happens to be the tribe where Moses, King David and the Messiah are descendants from.]
8). Judah, thou art whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father's children shall bow down before thee.
9). Judah is a lion's whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion: who shall rouse him up?
10). The sceptre shall not depart from Judah nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shi'-loh come: and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
11). Binding his foal unto the vine, and his ass's colt unto the choice vine; he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the of grapes:
12).`His eyes shall be red with wine, and his teeth white with milk.
This Scripture gives us much symbolism and several analogies in the Spirit of Prophecy from our fore-father Jacob. Each sentence and portion of this scripture can be attributed to actual performed events and truths pertaining to the Messiah before and after he arrives. The first part of this scriptures clearly places this tribe in a position of leadership among the brethren, leadership that indicates royalty, where praise and bowing down comes into being, towards Judah..
The Sceptre "means Teacher or someone who instructs, and Shi'-loh is another name for Jesus the Christ (anointed one). His place is significant among the brethren where leadership, teaching and direction for the people as a whole nation is significant. During a celebration of the Passover the people began to hale him "Hosanna in the Highest" as he rides a colt into town. Of course there is also much ambiguity that arrives with his coming because Judah is also known by now as the tribe of Kings like Saul, King David, Hezekiah and others, the Maccabees also who were all descendants of this tribe.
There is anticipation from the people that a Prophet would come to them as it pertains to the writings of Moses, Isaiah, Jeremiah and Daniel the Prophet. The kingship is even sort of pushed on Jesus by the Pharisees and Sadducees who now feel they've finally found something significant on him as a crime of disloyalty to Rome and the established Jewish leaders. And therefore he is asked quite literally "are you the king of the Jews?". [ King Herod by the way, sees this particular position of (King), among the Jews as belonging to himself after showing such diligent loyalty to the Romans in war, and diplomatic relations. Another side note is that Herod also had specific issue with the tribe of Judah and it's descendants from a long standing historic rivalry. You see Herod was a descendant of Esau the twin brother of Jacob, who stole a highly coveted birthright by selling Esau a morsel of meat in exchange for it.. This rivalry between descendants of Jacob and Esau remained extant up to and beyond the time of the arrival of the Messiah.]

Let's take a look at some other prophecies that pertain to the Messiah, especially some of those that would have caused the Jews to be in anticipation of the arrival of such a Prophet.
